Parador de La Granja

This a lovely place, a well converted old building, now a luxury hotel. Our room was huge and clean and comfortable. The onsite restaurant was very good for dinner and breakfast as was the bar/cafe. The staff were lovely and helpful and the Parador is very close to the palace and gardens. The onsite spa is nice but the sauna felt crowded. The treatments were nice, great massages! Parking wasn't easy to find and the rooms had no coffee/tea facilities and there is no room service but these are negatives but didn't spoil our stay!

The interior of the building was so beautiful and the atmosphere was quiet yet elegant. The breakfast was also delicious.

We stayed at this property for a wedding and were given the wrong room upon arrival. The room we received was nowhere near what we paid for, and management refused to accommodate us with a comparable room or issue any kind of refund. On top of that, we were denied basic water service at 6:00 a.m., which is completely unacceptable. To make matters worse, the hotel provided false information to our credit card company, claiming that we requested an extra bed. That is an outright lie. The suite we originally booked and paid for only had one bed to begin with. This level of dishonesty and refusal to take responsibility is unacceptable. I would strongly caution anyone against staying here.

The stay was fantastic, with the added benefit of being located in a historic site, just walking distance to the amazing Palace (the "Spanish Versailles")

The Parador is located near the Royal Palace, the hotel building being rather unspectacular. The reception cannot easily be found if you come from the free public parking lot, as it is not well signposted. The staff was helpful and happy to provide information. Our room on the first floor was spacious, the bed very comfortable, the air conditioning worked well, and there was also a minibar – we missed a kettle though. The bathroom was large and clean, with a bathtub and an integrated shower. The view from the room was rather unremarkable, but this did not affect the overall positive impression. Breakfast offered the usual Spanish standard, with hot dishes available upon request. We especially enjoyed the coffee from the machine. Overall, a large, elegant Parador with friendly service and a pleasant atmosphere. We felt comfortable and would return if in the area.

It is situated in walking distance of the palace and has beautiful rooms with open doors. We were lucky to have rooms at the backside (and not the street side) and in the wing above the tranquility patio, instead of the patio where breakfast was held. That being said, we were not entirely satisfied: the reception was understaffed for such a big hotel and there was a constant cue, which made check-in lengthy, hurried and chaotic, with no vital information at all, and since this information was also not available in the room, we had to constantly ask and thus did not know that we could not enter the gym with our room keycard, but had to pick up a special entry card at the reception, the small pool is closed after mid-September, which was not clear to us when we booked, there was no toilet brush, no coffee facilities in the room. Since there was no information on paper in the room, we were constantly referred to the website, but then we found out that the menu of the restaurant that was on the website, was outdated, but they had forgotten to update the website. It is a great spot, but there is room for improvement.
