“The Best Parador you've never heard of”
A stunning Parador well worth a detour
“Beautiful location. Good breakfast . Nice room · Cons: The swimming pool was not open. The jacuzzi was basic with outside windows blocked. Lots of building work going on. Netting on the first floor spoiling the view in the courtyard.”

“The hotel was good, but the town was not that attractive. Nice breakfast. · Cons: It had a swimming pool but the area around could do with improving.”

“We loved our night at Parador monforte de Lemos. Lovely relaxing space to spend the night away.”
Great parking, lovely Parador, very relaxing and an easy walk down to the Centre.
“Not quite luxury in Monforte”
Always great to stay in a well designed restoration of an old monastery. Big, nicely decorated rooms with comfortable beds. Great views over the valley from rooms as well as outside of property. Plenty of free outdoor parking.
Bathroom seems a bit dated. Shower is awkward and not something you would find in a luxury property. Rooms can be a bit noisy from unit above. Staff insists you make a reservation for breakfast - even if you just want coffee. The cafeteria opening at 11:00 seems designed to funnel people into the breakfast restaurant and comes across as a annoying ploy to make extra money. No ramp at front entrance means hauling your bags up stairs.
“Truly a great hotel with character and ambiance.”
The hotel was very good and had wonderful atmosphere. Our check in went well and the staff were helpful. It should be noted that, like other Spanish hotels, they are very lightly staffed. When a large group or tour arrives, it is definitely stretched (but this is not often). We managed to be their for a procession at the attached church, where the people wound their way around the hill to get up. We also managed to be there for the Great Power Outage (where the whole country (and Portugal) went dark). The hotel had backup power that operated until the national grid was restored, but the staff went and got candles just in case (so we actually missed the opportunity for a romantic and historical experience - though elevators and room lights was likely better). All in all, one of our favorite Paradors. We found it was convenient, and pleasant, to get to town, but had to go down some steep stretches. Those who are mobility challenged would need to drive or get a taxi.
The Jacuzzi / hot tub was a bit cold (to the point of being near freezing). Not a big issue as we were only trying it out to be nosy since the pool was not yet open due to season. I am sure it would be much better during the summer.
