“Staying in a hilltop castle”
We stayed here in February 2026. The views are amazing. The hotel seems to be built among the remains of a castle (a theme they kept throughout the interior). We had a room with a balcony that overlooked the city. Breakfast was free, and we also opted to have dinner at the onsite restaurant. The staff...front desk and restaurant...were always attentive and friendly. It's a quick walk to the heart of town (though the walk back up is a bit steep). Our only complaint was that the AC wasn't cooling. We visited in the winter, but it was still warm in the room (over probably over 28fc/82f degrees upon arrival). Even with the windows open it never quite got comfortable. We asked if the AC was working at the front desk and they said it was. Oh well. All in all, we had a great stay and would stay there again.

“Stop for the Location, Stay for the View”
Parador de Tortosa is Located just off the A-7 about two hours South of Barcelona and three hours 45 minutes North of Alicante. It is not a beach location but the views from the cannon ramparts are spectacular. As many Paradors do, Parador de Tortosa offers a bit of history, and spending time wandering the grounds and the city around the Parador is fun and educational. This Parador offered better parking than others we had stayed at which was a welcome change. Breakfast was lovely as always. The cafeteria options were limited but adequate. The rooms were spacious and comfortable, but a bit old and dated. We enjoyed the hacienda style. Parador de Tortosa is going through some renovations and construction starts up at 7:30 AM, so late morning folks be warned.
“It's not average, but it's a 3 IMO...”
It's a while since I have stayed in a Parador and it all flooded back when I arrived. You choose a Parador because why would you choose to stay in a modern hotel when you can stay in a castle? I remembered that there are some reasons! - it's hard to make a castle feel warm and cozy. The dining room is grand, but also a little hard to feel ambiance. The rooms are a bit monastic etc. - it's a old building. My room smelt a bit, and the bathroom was very old fashioned - there are few amenities in the room. No coffee machine etc. - the clientele is inevitably touristy. But hey, I was a tourist too. But you get a very concentrated tourist clientele vibe, undiluted by business people etc. The staff are nice but the processes are outdated (long to check in). The food was good in the restaurant - not stunning, but sufficient standard. As others have said, there is a lot of building work so you don't get the wow of an ancient building right now. Go in the right frame of mind (I was solo, and just needing a bed for the night which is not the right frame of mind). Just don't expect a really luxury hotel experience. Pricing is fair but you could find a better room quality for the price outside of the Parador concept.
“A welcome surprise in southern Catalonia”
While the grounds of the castle are under restoration the actual building and amenities of the parador are outstanding. The building itself is stunning - a medieval fortress/castle which is beautifully decorated making one feel one is stepping back into Spain’s Golden Age. The views over the town and surrounding mountains are spectacular. The restaurant was terrific offering delicious food served in a relaxed atmosphere; breakfasts were also great. We found the staff to be friendly and very helpful.
“Another great stay”
The second time we have stayed here, although the first time was many years ago. Usual excellent experience comparing to the other 12 or 13 we have stayed in. We will always stay in a Parador if there is one on our route.
