Pazo de Laia

When our original accommodation cancelled last minute, we had to scramble to find another place to stay. We all felt the inconvenience turned out to be a blessing, as we could not have asked for a better place to stay. Gustavo was so warm and welcoming and made us feel more like family than guests. Our rooms were clean, comfortable and very spacious. We enjoyed sitting on the terrace surrounded by beautiful countryside, an abundance of animals and a calming stream flowing into a pond. After cleaning up and relaxing, we enjoyed a delicious dinner prepared by Nayon, who was so attentive and accommodating. We were delighted to be joined by other pilgrims and it felt like a holiday dinner with family and friends. Gustavo was so attentive to our needs, and even opened the chapel so I could spend some quiet time in prayer, wrapping me in a blanket to make sure I was comfortable. After a wonderful night's sleep, we were treated to a bountiful and delicious feast for breakfast. All rested and fueled up for our journey, Gustavo transported us to the Camino to continue our walk. Could not have asked for a better experience or place to stay along the Camino!

Bit weird and food prices in evening reminded me of the UK, enough said.

We were excited for an unusual stay on our Camino trip. Pazo de Laia was wonderful in some respects - beautiful setting; historic farmhouse; delicious food; lovely animals; and a chance to hold a baby goat! The staff was wonderful (even if the proprietor was less accommodating). But the rooms were mis-marketed - e.g. we had two "hot tub" rooms reserved but that is not what we had when we arrived and that was apparently our fault. (Although the rooms were spacious with comfy mattresses and pretty views.) I believe the proprietors have improved their room descriptions and added more photos on Booking.com since our stay to be more accurate. Also, you are a captive audience when there. The food and especially the bottles of wine and other beverages were quite overpriced relative to our experience thus far on the Camino at nice hotels and restaurants. And, once you are at Pazo de Laia, you do not have options except for them. I would recommend that they do an "all-inclusive" price with room, a 2-course dinner and breakfast buffet / coffee and have reasonable prices for their bottles of wine to be attractive relative to Camino options. (Or encourage BYOB.) I believe this would help them welcome more Camino travelers to what is a unique stay, and - if we had had that package - I would have given them a 10/10. As it was, we had some disappointments. But the baby goats made up for a lot. :-)

Amazing country retreat and beautiful location. Great that the owner picked us up from the centre of town and dropped us back again to pick up where we left off on the Camino. However, didn't have an early breakfast or drop off option, so we started the Camino longest leg much later and as a result, it was a really hard and hot day, so be prepared for that. Otherwise, wonderful place!

Interesting rural/agri/farm type stay just off the Camino route (they arrange for transport to/from). We booked a ‘suite’ in the main house but moved to one of the newer regular rooms in new annex building. The main house is quite eccentric/older in its furnishing etc, but the staff were very friendly and helpful through out our stay. The dinner and breakfast were fantastic - true local hospitality

The cleanliness , the food was amazing and the workers in the hotel were very nice and genuine people. We got a lift to and from the hotel and the owner was so chatty and helpful.
