Pensión Lagunak

It was absolutely disgusting. First I checked if the sheets were changed. See the photo below :) also I had beautiful gift in a toiled when I arrived. I literally felt like staying in some mental hospital. Keys were not working so needed to wait for a girl who doesn’t speak English, as there is no reception, to bring me new key. Traumatising experience.

We were delayed going to Zarautz but the pension arranged for a place to collect the keys. When we arrive at the hotel the room was freezing (temperatures were -1ºC on the first night we were) there and the heating didn't work. The toilet/bathroom was dirty and the bedsheets looked liked they hadn't been changed since the last occupant as there were several long black hairs and dirt in the bed. Also, & this is my fault as I didn't initially check exactly where the pension is on a map but it is right net to a railway line and trains go past about every 10 minutes but there is no metion of this on the hotel's site or any of the online booking sites. The next day when the restaurant opened at 10 I went to recetion to tell the woman there that the heating didn't work & she gave me instructions on how to make it work. I followed her instructions but it still didn't work so I went reception again & was told by a different person that it only worked with cold air for in the summer but they would put a portable radiator in the room. By now we wanted to book into another hotel but everwhere was full in town as this was a holiday weekend. We stayed one more night there but the room wasn't cleaned properly by the staff so we cancelled the other 2 nights we had booked and went to another town to find accomodation. Don't stay here - this is bad, backpacker style accomodation at hotel prices

We told management we would get there at 6pm but we were 5 minutes late due to trying to find a car park and they didn't wait for us. We had to call booking.com to find the manager to let us in as they had left the premises. The train ran outside our bedroom window about 10 metres away so it was very noisy.

We booked to stay here through Booking.com Despite conformation e mails including one agreeing to our late arrival when we arrived they had either overbooked or had the wrong day!! I produced my confirmation but they were simply NOT interested. The lady we spoke to was more concerned with running her restaurant than helping three people who didn't speak Spanish late at night find some other accommodation!! It was their fault but they were not interested.....utterly atrocious! DO NOT STAY HERE....YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

It wasn't that cheap anyway, 10 Euros more would have secured a more comfortable night's sleep. I have never been in a hotel/pension quite so close to a railway line, my room was literally within 10 metres of passing trains(not that frequent actually). The other side was a noisy square, full of families with young kids(but it was Sunday afternoon). So, all in all, not the best place to stay if you are tired. I booked a single room, and that indeed was what I got. Bit like a youth hostel, but shower room was OK if small, but no toiletries provided. Everything nice and clean however, and the restaurant below looked good(closed when I was there, just my luck). WiFi was good. Zarautz is a jumping little place, I liked it, the rollers were coming in along the sandy beach, very attractive, and the town has a nice feel to it.
