“Comfortable, friendly and hassle-free accommodation”
The Pension has a garden with picnic tables and deck chairs, even though it is in the city centre. Across the road, up the stairs, is the market with local products. As welcome we got coffee capsules, and some herbal tea, each floor has a kettle and coffee machine in the hall. Staff in the main hotel super friendly and helpful, nothing was a problem, when we asked for help. Their main restaurant - very fancy.
“Clean, comfortable and central”
Central in Santiago, clean and comfortable
The booking in process was a bit elongated, you had to go somewhere to book in and then walk to the hotel to get in. It wasn’t smooth and needs looking at, the last thing you need after walking all day is to be sat outside somewhere waiting
“A wonderfully located and charming stay that far exceeded our expectations — we would gladly return.”
The room was clean, spacious, and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The best part is the location — right in front of the Mercado de Abastos, where we had one of our best lunches, just a short 5-minute walk away. There’s also a direct airport bus stop (line 6A) nearby, which, no exaggeration, was an absolute lifesaver. The reception at Altamira was fantastic — warm, friendly, and genuinely enthusiastic. We felt completely at home from the moment we arrived. Considering the price we paid, this stay far exceeded our expectations.
Although the hotel was excellent and exceeded our expectations, if we had to be picky, there was just one small issue: the front door at O Xardín de Julia was a bit tricky to open. Since there’s no reception on-site, check-in takes place at Altamira, and guests are supposed to use their key card to open the front door by tapping it on the doorbell system, or at least, that is what I understood. It is possible that we misunderstood the instruction, if that is the case, ignore this. But anyway, in our case, the key card never worked, and we had to ring the bell and ask the Altamira staff to buzz us in every time we returned. Also, the front door is quite heavy — and if your room is directly above or near it, you might hear it opening and closing throughout the evening. We had two rooms: mine was on the second floor above the door, and I didn’t hear anything, but my friend’s room was on the first floor facing the opposite side, and she was slightly bothered by the noise. It really depends on your sensitivity and room location. This isn’t a complaint — just something we experienced, and it didn’t affect our overall enjoyment.
“Incredibly noisy – very disappointing”
I wish I had read the other reviews complaining about the noise before booking – the property is located very close to a bar/pub which is open until 4.30am in the morning and the room I had (facing the street at the front) was incredibly noisy with people outside the window until 5am, meaning I was unable to sleep. This obviously had a huge impact on my stay and I was incredibly frustrated and disappointed. The room was also very warm and there was no fan or air conditioning – and I couldn't open the windows due to the already substantial noise.
“Disappointed - look elsewhere for accommodation”
No restaurant or bar or staff whatsoever, no facilities to buy anything, equipment in reception area has long stopped being in use. No mention of a late night bar just below which made noises and loud music into the early hours of the morning. I would advise to Find somewhere else
“Good”
The room was cute, the location was ideal, the window was beautiful and the hotel was pretty new.
The bathroom was kinda small and you had to go get the key somewhere else which took a longer time that you would think.
