Pets friendly apartment, Next to the Marina and Arroyo de la Miel

We stayed in this apartment for a weekend as a group of 5 friends. On arrival, we noticed several issues that were disappointing and didn’t match the listing or expectations. There was a wet puddle near the dishwasher when we arrived, possibly from a leak, because of this we avoided using the dishwasher for the entire weekend, just incase it made things worse. Both the indoor and outdoor dining areas only had 4 chairs, despite the listing stating it accommodates 6 guests. The sofa bed, which we needed for sleeping arrangements, was broken and unstable making it uncomfortable and unsafe to use, it also hadn’t been properly cleaned, as the sheets were covered in crumbs Luckily there was a spare sheet and pillow case in the wardrobe of the master bedroom so we could change them, but that is definitely not something we should have to do. Additionally, one of the towels provided had visible makeup stains on it upon arrival, and I ended up vacuuming the bathroom floor shortly after we arrived because there were hairs on the floor and in the shower. To top it off, we found a large cockroach in the en suite. The water temperature was also a big problem, it was either scalding hot or freezing cold with no in between so showers were very uncomfortable. Despite these issues, we initially decided not to complain as we understood that it was a budget friendly stay and didn’t want to cause any trouble as all in all we had a lovely weekend. However, we were quite disappointed when the host later informed us they would be deducting £30 from our deposit due to some hair dye stains on 2 towels. While we understand and are happy to pay for replacements if needed, £30 for 2 small plain white hand/hair towels feels rather unreasonable especially considering the poor cleanliness and maintenance we encountered when we arrived. This place has potential, but the cleanliness and accuracy of the listing need serious improvement.

Negative: While the apartment had many positives, we did want to mention a few things that affected our stay from a safety perspective. The second bedroom, which our child used, had a window that didn’t lock properly - it seemed to be broken. Although there was a shutter that could be lowered over it, we still felt uneasy at night and didn’t sleep as well because of that concern. Additionally, there were two entrance doors, but neither of them locked securely. The small gate at the front also didn’t close properly and would bang in the wind during the night - we ended up placing a chair against it to stop the noise and feel more secure. For families with young children, it would definitely give more peace of mind if these safety issues were addressed given this property is on ground floor.

Unfortunately when we arrived the apartment had mildew issues throughout, the smell was very strong when we opened the door. See attached photos. At least as of April 6th, 2025 it's not in a safe livable condition. The property managers did apologize, but they did not offer any resolution and was oblivious to our concerns. We were booked for 11 nights, but only spent 1 night due to the condition and the smell. Booking.com adviced us to leave due to health risks to our children. If I was considering booking this I would ask for proof of a mold remediation and updated photos. They had painted over the mildew walls with white paint (for example the master bedroom is teal in the booking.com photos, but now white). I've asked for a refund, but have not gotten any help from booking.com or the property. We ended up spending a significantly larger amount on two last minute hotel rooms. I'm an Airbnb host myself and I would never rent out a property to someone in that condition and if a guest has any concerns I solve it right away whether that be refunding them or any other solution. Apart from the mildew, the pool was closed (even though booking.com said it was open during our stay), the patio had a broken chair and other junk left (not very inviting), the sofa bed was broken and there's only 1 bunk bed (not 2 as listed on booking.com).
