Posada de Roncesvalles

Room was spacious and clean. Dinner was great.

FIRST THE NEGATIVES: Due to weather, we actually stayed in Roncevalles for two nights. The first night was at the Casa de la Beneficia (next door) and it was less expensive by €40, however the room was far, far, nicer and 3x the size of Posada’s room, and it was cleaner and better than Posada. Also, there is far more history and ambience at Casa. Like no comparison. In addition, the breakfast and dinner at the Posada doesn’t even compare to the Casa. For example, the breakfast buffet at Casa is fantastic with a huge variety of options. At the Posada for breakfast, they basically bring you a croissant (good), ONE piece of meat, ONE piece of cheese and bread that is stale (and 1 fruit each - we think it was a kiwi, but it was hard and couldn’t open it). Also, the dinner at Casa is not even to be compared with Pasada. Casa has the best dinner by hundreds of percentages. In summary, if the Posada hotel was €50 or even €75, it may be okay but for what they charge €178 it’s ridiculous. It’s actually insulting when compared to the lesser priced and far nicer Casa de la Beneficia. ON A POSITIVE NOTE: The lady at the check-in counter is fantastic and the girls in the bar are great. BTW - if you want an awesome cappuccino go to Casa Sabina (restaurant) a 100 meters away - and ask for Imanol (best cappuccinos in Spain. FINALLY: Would we stay here again? Not unless it was the last possible option. It is nowhere near the value for the money.

Large room in a well organised hotel, food was exceptional, beer was cold, shower was hot and the bed was comfortable. Would definitely stay here again.

Posada de Roncesvalles was a very welcoming place to stay on the first day of our Camino journey. The room was very comfortable and the dinner and breakfast were tasty and good value

The food provided was simple but well cooked and delicious. The set meal even threw in a bottle of decent wine. Breakfast was again simple but plentiful as fits a Camino hotel. The building is an 18th Century pilgrims hospital with plenty of character and pleasant staff. The rooms are simple but spacious.

Dinner at the restaurant was uniquely delicious and well-presented. Thank you!
