Posada Rural La Peña Casares

We were asked twice, in a friendly way, if we would give a positive review. This seems indiscreet.

I booked on booking.com and arrived at the hotel less than 1 hour later. After finding the entrance, the door was closed, and there was no ring bell. I waited a bit but then decided to walk until the next hotel. I tried getting reimbursement through booking.com, but did not manage to, and the hotel didn't reply to my emails.

There was nobody in the house when we arrived during normal check-in hours, it took a lot of calling out and phone calls for somebody to take notice of us. The owner just said hello and gave us the key, no welcome, no tips, no opportunity to ask any questions. The room decor was pretty dated, and while generally clean everything including the bathroom was very basic. Our room was on the ground floor facing the patio, we could hear everybody's conversations outside as if they were sitting next to us, so no real privacy. There is a dog keeper nearby and some other privately owned dogs in the neighbouring houses that barked a lot, this was a major nuisance also at night and in the early morning hours. On checking out again the host did the absolute minimum for guests to feel appreciated - it felt like it's just somebody renting out rooms in their house, fairly unprofessional.
