“Difference in Quality of Prinsotel Hotels”
The best

We stayed at Prinsotel Hotel Alba Cala d’Or in May 2025, having previously stayed at its sister hotel, Prinsotel Le Dorado, which was absolutely outstanding. Unfortunately, the two hotels are not comparable, and I feel it’s important to make other guests, particularly families aware of this before booking. First, the positives: The hotel itself is attractive, and the staff we encountered were polite and friendly. Cala d’Or is also a lovely location. However, this hotel should not be rated four-star, and our experience fell well below expectations, especially when compared to Prinsotel La Dorado. Dining & Half-Board Issues We booked half board, expecting access to the advertised restaurants. On arrival, we were told that the Grill restaurant was closed because it was “too early in the season” and there were not enough guests. This was not disclosed at the time of booking, and had we known, we would not have paid for half board. As a result, dinner options were limited to: • The buffet, or • The sushi restaurant (which is excellent but we did not want to eat at every night). The buffet food was consistently lukewarm, even when we arrived right at opening time (around 6:00–6:30 pm), as some of the very first guests. This is simply not acceptable. There was also very little variety, with the same offerings repeated, unlike Le Dorado where there were themed nights (Mexican, Italian, Chinese, etc.) and excellent quality throughout. The difference in food quality between the two hotels is significant. Safety Concerns (Very Important for Families) As a parent of young children, I was extremely concerned about safety at Prinsotel Alba. • The children’s evening entertainment was held right beside the swimming pool, with no barrier. I had to personally point out to staff how dangerous this was ,children dancing only steps away from the pool edge. One wrong move and a child could easily fall in. • The playground is alarmingly close to the main road, with direct, open access. From the playground, it takes only a few steps to be on the road. There is no gate, no code, and no secure barrier. This is not just a minor concern, it is a serious safety risk. What makes this even more worrying is that my sister raised the exact same issue with management eight years ago at the Alba hotel, and nothing has been done. In contrast, Prinsotel Le Dorado has a coded gate system, making it extremely safe for children. The difference is stark. Kids’ Club Experience The children’s club was another disappointment. Staff were largely behind the desk rather than actively engaging with the children. Activities felt minimal, and children were asked to tidy up not just their own work but other children’s work, which is inappropriate in a holiday setting. This is not school, it’s meant to be fun, inclusive, and engaging. Again, the contrast with Le Dorado, where the kids’ club was energetic, well-run, and child-focused, was very noticeable. Overall Impression While Prinsotel Hotel Alba is marketed as a five-star family-friendly hotel, it does not deliver on that promise, particularly when compared to its sister property, Le Dorado. Key issues: • Undisclosed restaurant closures • Poor food quality and lack of variety • Serious child safety concerns • Underwhelming kids’ club • Facilities and standards far below expectations I am sharing this review so families can make an informed decision before booking. Had we known these things in advance, we would have chosen differently.

“Overall we had a nice stay and would possibly return for the right deal as the hotel is actually run really well and in”
The best

Great location, nice staff, well kept gardens, very comfy bed, nice bathroom

To be improved

Pool loungers were gone every day by 7:30am, breakfast was just okay, some choice but just not the nicest, little to no entertainment during the day-not even any background music at the pool.

“We had a great time.”
The best

It’s a very good hotel in an excellent location with excellent staff. The food is 10/10 also. The spa is very nice.

To be improved

The pool and pool area is not big enough for the size of the hotel. There’s way too much many families trying to use the same space. The pool is boiling over with people. We stayed for 8 days and never once managed to get a sun lounger. People get up at 5/6am to either put a towel on their lounger or physically sit on them. I think on guy was actually sleeping on his overnight so he didn’t lose it. So we ended up sitting on the uncomfortable plastic chairs whilst our kids went in the pool. The beach is the same. Completely Rammed.

“Our Second Stay at Prinsohotel Alba – Amazing Team”
The best

This was our second stay at Prinsohotel Alba, and even though the weather wasn’t great, it didn’t dampen our spirits thanks to the incredible staff. The reception team, especially Juanma and Megan, were absolutely outstanding. From the moment we arrived, they greeted us with genuine warmth and professionalism. They were always available with a smile, ready to answer questions, offer helpful tips, and make sure everything was perfect. Their personal touch and attention to detail made us feel valued and cared for throughout the stay – they truly set the tone for a wonderful holiday . The Market Bar Restaurant team, with Feli and Lourdes, delivered excellent service and created a welcoming dining experience every time. At the bar, Samir and Paco were fantastic – friendly, attentive, and always ensuring we had a great time. A special mention to the animation team, who were so lovely to our daughter and made her feel included and entertained throughout the stay. Their kindness added an extra layer of joy to our holiday. Overall, the combination of an amazing reception team, a wonderful restaurant crew, a lively bar staff, and a caring animation team made our holiday unforgettable. Thank you to everyone at Prinsohotel Alba – we can’t wait to return for a third visit! Louise

“An Enjoyable Stay”
The best

We recently spent five nights at the Prinsotel Alba & Spa as a family of four with two children aged 9 and 11. Overall, it's a beautiful, elegant hotel with exceptional housekeeping, and it boasts a fab location—close to plenty of shops and restaurants, and just a short walk from a clear, clean beach. However, there were a few points regarding the dining plan and services that future families should be aware of. Cleanliness and Housekeeping (Near-Perfect Service!): The hotel is immaculately clean, with one small exception: the stairways leading to the rooms needed sweeping and appeared to be the only area where the high cleaning standard was missed. That said, the housekeeping team do an otherwise absolutely incredible job. Our rooms were kept spotless, our towels were replaced every day, and all the amenities—the shampoos, conditioners, and body washes—were generously refilled, with ample supply for everyone. This team deserves huge praise for their dedication. Pools and Spa Facilities: The Spa facilities are lovely and a major plus. Regarding the pools, we visited in October (the final closing week of the season), which seemed to have an unexpected benefit: children could use the indoor pool at any time although originally we eere told it was 1.30-3.30, which was truly great! The weather wasn't good on one of the days, so having all-day access to the warm indoor pool was incredibly helpful and appreciated by the kids. The outside pool was, as expected for October, a bit chilly but still usable. Dining (Half Board Feedback): We were on the half-board plan. Breakfast was nice, offering the usual assortment: pastries, yogurt, eggs, fry-up items, and fun treats like churros and pancakes. As a vegetarian, I was happy to always find something substantial to eat. Dinner usually had something everyone could eat, but we found it got a bit repetitive after only five nights. We can imagine if you were there for a week or longer it could get very boring. We tried the sushi restaurant one lunchtime, but it was expensive and felt overpriced. We were very disappointed to discover after paying that we could have received a 20% discount on lunch and dining if we had mentioned we were hotel guests, but we were never informed of this policy. We ended up paying full price, which was frustrating and feels like a key piece of information that should be clearly communicated at check-in. Hygiene Concern: A significant negative was the persistent hygiene issue with fruit flies. This wasn't just an isolated incident; the flies were visible over the fruit, cold food items, and breads during both breakfast and dinner service, which definitely needs immediate attention from management. Disappointing Service: The animation team didn't put a lot on for the kids (aged 9 and 11) in that final week, which was a bit disappointing as they would have still liked some entertainment. Overall: The Prinsotel Alba & Spa is a truly lovely hotel that served us well for our five-night stay. The location is fantastic, and the service, particularly the housekeeping and the all-day indoor pool access, was excellent. If you go half-board, be prepared for some repetition in the dinner menu, and make sure you ask for the hotel guest dining discount! We still had a great holiday and would recommend it to other families.
