“They are counting 50 cents cost”
Location is great on the gran via. Rooms are not bad but some noise come from behind the bed. Second thing is hot water is not available when we check in. I can say that you dont get breakfast or dont use rooftop. I want to explain one issue which we faced. We see coffee machine and kettle at the reception&breakfast area. We just want to take some hot water and espresso, but one guy come from kitchen and he said that something in spanish, he directly closed the lights of this area. It is unbelievable. One lady came from reception and said that you cant take those from here now. We just want to take hot water and espresso. If one facility think 50 cent costs like this, I dont want to think what they are doing at the other areas.
“No privacy in the bathroom”
The rooms are nicely designed, and the bed is very comfortable. However, the bathroom setup is a major drawback. There is no proper door, and the space is completely open. The toilet is enclosed in a glass cubicle, offering very little privacy. If you are sharing the room, this can feel quite awkward and uncomfortable. Breakfast is quite basic. Overall, it’s a decent hotel with some strong points, but I would only recommend it for solo travelers. Due to the lack of privacy in the bathroom, I wouldn’t choose to stay here again with another person.
“How the front desk personnel can ruin your experience at a hotel”
Hotel Review: Room Mate Macarena, Madrid (March 14–19) I arrived at the hotel around 7:00 a.m. after a long, 10-hour flight and went straight to check in. Although I was not greeted upon entering, despite two staff members being present at the front desk, a young blond male staff member did inform me that a room was available early, well before the official 3:00 p.m. check-in time. I appreciated this, as I was extremely exhausted. I was assigned Room 115. Unfortunately, the room had significant usability issues. The toilet was located in a separate, extremely small space that required sitting sideways to use—clearly not accessible or comfortable for most adults. After resting briefly, I left to get food and returned later to shower. The shower, however, was unusable. The stall door opened inward, leaving less than eight inches of space to enter, making it physically impossible to access. This room is not suitable for a standard-sized adult and raises serious concerns about accessibility and basic functionality. When I returned to the front desk to report the issue, I expressed my frustration, noting that the staff seemed already aware of the room’s limitations. I was initially told I would need to pay extra for a different room, which I declined, as the issue was not a matter of preference but of usability. Eventually, the staff agreed to move me and instructed me to call reception when I was ready; however, there was no phone in the room, requiring me to go back upstairs again to the reception desk. I was ultimately reassigned to a different room, 101, which was appropriately sized and had a functional bathroom and shower. I want to acknowledge that the hotel’s support staff—particularly the doormen and housekeeping team—were excellent and professional throughout my stay. Unfortunately, my experience with the front desk left a lasting negative impression due to the lack of communication, accountability, and overall customer service. The blond young man at the front desk is the largest culprit. Because of this experience, I would not choose to stay at this hotel again.
“Stylish, Good Value and a Cracking Location”
This was our first experience of the Room Mate brand and we had a great stay. The group currently has 5 hotels in Madrid, we were attracted to the Macarena branch due to the glowing reviews and fabulous Gran Via location. Check-in was friendly and helpful, as were the lovely staff in the restaurant/cafe bar. Breakfast was included, it offered a good variety of buffet items, served till a very agreeable 12pm! Alongside reception, the restaurant is located on Floor 9, it’s an easy going, any time space, boasting a terrace with panoramic views. A floor above you’ll find the cool rooftop bar, again with mega views, plus a small pool (open in season). We were very happy with our room for the money, it was funkily styled and very comfortable and light. We opted for a Gran Via view, and apart from the odd police siren, found it pretty peaceful. Brownie points given for the provision of a kettle and mini-fridge. This stay certainly turned us on to the Room Mate brand, we will consider them for future travels.
“A very good hotel in a great location”
I really enjoyed my stay here and would consider returning, though a few slight tweaks to the hotel could make it even better. The location is on Gran Vía, next to Callao metro. It’s walkable to so many places in the centre, and about 15-20 mins to the main museums. The room was on the smaller side (I booked the second smallest category), so be aware of this. Noise was non existent even being on Madrid’s busiest street. I felt the bathroom could have been better - the taps were awkward to use, and the water pressure was average. Breakfast is good. It’s not huge but a decent selection of fruit, meats, cheese and cakes. Would recommend unless you have a list of brunch places to try. So overall, a comfortable, well located and convenient place to stay. I felt it was very good value too.
“Great stay”
Stayed here for a weekend away in Madrid, a wonderful stay and would definitely come back again. Very clean & spacious room, very nicely decorated. shower and toilet area separated, mini fridge included. The is located just off Gran Via which was a perfect location for us to get around the city. Roof top bar was very nice and has a nice view of the city.
