“Family Holiday in Menorca – Lovely Area but Too Late in the Season”
We stayed at Seth Mestral during the very last week of the season (28th October – 1st November) and it definitely felt like it! The good bits: Santo Tomás is a lovely, peaceful resort, the beach is gorgeous and well looked after by the lifeguards. The staff and locals were all friendly and welcoming, which really made a difference. We enjoyed the pool bar, the coffee and toasties were great for brunch or lunch. A little pricey, but worth it for the convenience! Our apartment had a spacious balcony, perfect for sitting out in the evenings playing cards and towels were provided (though not changed during our stay). The hotel bar across the road was convenient, but it closed before our holiday had finished. Reception is tiny and very basic but was never busy during our stay. The coastal walk to Son Bou was stunning, definitely worth doing if you visit. Things to keep in mind: As it was the very end of the season, most shops and restaurants had already closed. Only one small supermarket remained open with limited stock, so our self-catering plans didn’t really work out. The few restaurants still open had reduced menus. The rooms had everything we needed but were quite dated, and the pools were freezing - my husband and son only managed five minutes before giving up! We also chose not to dine at the hotel after learning our 13-year-old was classed as an adult and drinks weren’t included. Unfortunately, we also ended up covered in bites from the sofa beds, which was disappointing. Overall: The area is beautiful and the people are lovely. I think Seth Mestral, although looking a little tired, would be a great choice earlier in the season when everything’s open and the resort has a bit more life.
“October half term and it’s so quiet”
We arrived at the begging of half term and it’s so quiet Upon arrival we encountered a small wait long time as a few families arrived at the same time Reception staff really polite, explained everything in detail then we went off to our apartment We opted for a one bedroom suite with a pull out sofa bed Loads of room in the bedroom but not so in the living area with the sofa bed The complex has 3 pool areas, one splash zone for the kids then two larger pools on either side of the complex (freezing) We came half board and enjoyed a breakfast and evening meal deal. Plenty of food on offer for all tastes especially the desserts. Carlos and his team work really hard to keep the meals flowing and the eating areas clean. Outside entertainment area doesn’t open until 5 whilst the Children’s entertainment starts at 6 for 30 mins before the restaurant opens. After that it is either the arcade or outside soft play / trampoline park / mini golf. Bring a jacket or jumper for the evenings as it does go cold very quickly As we now say goodbye after our weeks stay, we have noticed that a lot of the area has started to close down for the winter even the local supermarkets. Go book yourself a holiday here, you won’t be disappointed
“Great apartments for a relaxing holiday.”
Enjoyed two fabulous weeks at these apartments. Four adults and four children.very clean and spacious with friendly helpful staff. Apartments are well equipped, cleaned every day and comfortable beds. Three pools, one of them a splash pool for little ones. We were half board and meals were across the road at “Las Dunas” restaurant. Great food and variety every night , kids always found something they liked especially the dessert table with the chocolate fountain. The staff were very friendly. The lovely beach is just two minute walk away and a well stocked supermarket just across the road. These apartments are great value and would definitely return and recommend for a relaxing holiday.
“Completely exceeded our expectations.”
We went in October so was quieter than in high season, but still enjoyed Santo Tomas. The apartment was clean and comfortable. The beds are memory foam, quite hard but we all slept well so well we had to set an 8am alarm to make sure we didn’t sleep in too late! We paid for breakfast and dinner and I would recommend this option. Eating out in Santo Tomas is quite expensive with not a lot of restaurant choice; however the food at Seth was far better than we’d anticipated. The meals were excellent with a wide choice of dishes. As a fussy eater I enjoyed being able to try lots of different food each night without having to commit to just one main meal. I discovered I liked far more things than I realised! Our 12 year old son also found plenty of food he liked (not just pizza, although this was available). The puddings were divine (including the chocolate fountain) with lots of fresh fruit also available. The staff were friendly and worked tirelessly clearing away the plates ready for us to go up for yet another course! Breakfast was also good with lots of hot and cold food options and unlimited coffee! There seemed to be quite a few activities for younger children such as face painting and bouncy castles (chargeable), and pool and air hockey tables for older ones. We also paid for the crazy golf (€3 each), which was fun. The beach is only a minute or two walk away and it’s stunning. It felt safe with plenty of lifeguards on duty. There are a couple of small supermarkets locally. Prices are similar to the UK; however if planning to go self-catering you may need to travel further afield to a larger supermarket for more variety. We hired a car for 3 days (€95 + fuel) from Owners Cars by the supermarket and visited Cuitadella, Mahon and Alaior (great art gallery) and a few other places. Driving in Menorca felt pretty easy. Driving standards are good - loads of speed cameras so people don’t tend to drive that fast. Overall, the resort itself was really clean and well kept. We did a couple of long walks along the coast; the scenery is beautiful. The only disappointing aspect was the temperature of the swimming pools. They were freezing, the sea was warmer! My son used the pool a few times but would be shivering uncontrollably after just a short time. Me and my husband only ventured in once; it wasn’t a pleasant experience. That said, the pools were clean, the poolside had plenty of beds and umbrellas, and the splash pool was great fun for the younger children. There were also lots of inflatables to use which had been left by previous guests if you don’t want to have to buy new ones. A fabulous holiday!
“Beautiful location, great food, friendly staff”
A nice break with my two teenaged children as a single parent. We were half board and the food at Las Dunas was above expectations - breakfast and dinner buffets were good quality, varied and plentiful. Carlos was so helpful with my dietary needs and I wasn't made to feel awkward at all - gluten free bread was available at every meal, and even a delicious brownie. The salad bar was my favourite part and the kids loved endless sweet options! A 2 bedroom apartment was spacious and clean with adequate cooking facilities, fridge, microwave, hob and oven. Aircon was handy. The shower pressure wasn't great but I informed reception and the replacement head was better. Our terrace opened onto the road and entertainment area, but noise was fine and finished by 10pm. It wasn't a smart TV, so bring your gadgets. The walkway by the sea, the cami des cavalls, is so picturesque and either direction gives beautiful views. I recommend the 1hr walk to an impressive cave, cova des coloms. Supermarket options are limited in Santo Tomas itself and hiring a car is probably best to explore the very small island. Overall, a lovely hotel in a tranquil beautiful location which felt nice and small with the apartment blocks. Nice pool although the sea was warmer! The staff were all friendly - thank you to Naseema for keeping me company on the long wait for the transfer on our last day! One thing to be aware of - most of the resort starts closing down for the season in the last week of October. The sunrises and sunsets were stunning and at decent times, though!
“Excellent hotel in a very quiet area”
Had a great week here with the family. The hotel is perfect for a family with kids, very close to the beach and plenty of pool space, splash pool and a park on site. Apartments are very good quality, plenty of space, clean and very comfy beds. The food was excellent for both breakfast and dinner, which had a really good selection. The staff were really friendly and helpful, including Carlos who seemed to be in charge of the restaurant. We'd highly recommend the hotel, although San Tomas is a very small place with not really anything else to do in the area.
