“Dirty Rooms, Poor Management, Zero Accountability”
I booked a triple room and it was absolutely unbearable. The room had almost no ventilation, causing a suffocating feeling and making it hard to breathe. After arriving late and exhausted, I complained to reception and was told there was a known issue with the air conditioning. Instead of fixing it or taking responsibility, they forced me to pay €90 for an upgrade — paying extra for their own failure. The second room had better air, but it became clear that cleanliness is a serious issue throughout this hotel. The beds and sheets were extremely dirty, and it looked like the linens were not changed at all, even after room service. This is completely unacceptable. I stayed in December, and the heating was very weak and ineffective. To make things worse, the hotel is on a busy street with terrible soundproofing, so noise continues all night. Poor management, lack of hygiene, extra charges to cover their own problems, and a very uncomfortable stay. Avoid this hotel.
“This is a tired and neglected hotel with no one in management really paying attention.”
We were booked this hotel by our agency as a four star, along with other four stars in our journey. This is in no way a four star hotel. The check in area and offices are full of air conditioners to keep the employees comfortable. The guests have no such privilege. The rooms have no effective air conditioning air flow. After moving to four rooms among us, we found no room that would cool. The management quotes “the air is 21 degrees,” That may be true, but there is no air flow to carry it into the room. The grates are moldy. The humidity is high. Rather than service the air conditioner, they send you a fan to plug into the wall. On the first floor, the wall paper is peeling off the walls most of the distance down the hall. I took photos and sent them to our booking agent. The hallway smells moldy. In our room the wall paper is peeling off the walls. I sent photos. There is no outlet on one side of the bed, should you need CPAP or a phone charge. There are no towel hooks to hang wet towels. Beware, if you order a large bed for two, they push two twins together, made up separately. You will not sleep next to your wife. You must specifically request a single large bed. We were able to move rooms on the second night. At breakfast, the scrambled eggs are rehydrated powder that is overcooked to a mealy consistency. There are no takeaway cups for coffee. You can only dine-in for coffee!! I could go on. I know that much of this may sound trite or privileged, but in hospitality details matter, and people will notice if you hold yourself out to be something that you are not. We checked out after three days to move to a real four star hotel, and cannot be happier.
“One of the worst hotels ever.”
Terrible experience. Firstly our room had 2 twins instead of a single bed. The rooms smelled. The air conditioning never worked. Their answer was just to give us a fan. Wallpaper peeling off walls. Certainly not a 4 star hotel. For the price, terrible value.
“Great hotel & location”
We had a great stay at the Silken. The hotel is in an excellent location, we have been a lot of times to Barcelona & this is our favourite hotel location. The room was plenty big enough for 2 adults, 1 child & a travel cot. My only feedback is we lacked hooks in the bathroom to hang up wet swimwear or towels. We found all the staff to be kind & helpful. The pool was great, especially given how hot Barcelona was when we visited & we used it a couple of times. We had lunch one day at the hotel & enjoyed the food. We would stay here again and have recommended it to family too who also visit Barcelona.
“Great stay would highly recommend. Central location but quiet at night. Really helpful staff”
