Everything I am writing is for your protection, a big warning. I take no pleasure in having to share my experience, but it’s my responsibility to warn other travelers. To protect others from the harm of this apartment and owners.
The owners will write a reply and deny all of this, it’s what those types of people do. They’ve already told me they don’t believe me and have no empathy, even though their laziness is why my life changed for one entire month. They will and have avoided responsibility. I woke up with bites all over my body after the first night sleep. I tried to just write them off as if they were mosquitoes. However, it was hard to ignore that the number of bites all over and the unusual places like the armpits, chest, waist, groin, bum, and entire back; places covered by clothes/blanket. Literally everywhere. Now I am in full freakout mode, because for every traveler, this is the worst nightmare. At first glance, the apartment looked clean. But as I pulled away furniture from the walls, cushions from chairs and sofas, you can see the filth that is hiding. One could identify animal hair all over, among dirt, sand, and what I can only assume were insect eggs.
During the second night, I didn’t sleep from the constant itching and anxiety, I contacted the owners in this night on WhatsApp, I told the fear that there is something contagious like fleas, bedbugs, or mites & need help. We let them into the apartment while we were away (hint: bad idea) & it look clean, but I learn the disease had spread and no cleaning would save my body. I would have this problem for the trip and much longer. On the last day I had to make great preparations to disinfect my clothing and luggage. I purchased disinfectants, I vacuumed my bags, placed in sealed plastic bags. I did everything hoping I would not bring whatever home.

I rushed to the pharmacy. The pharmacist could tell by the markings it was Scabies. I was given a cream against Scabies. I can share a quick study on what I learned. Scabies are microscopic bugs that live on, and in, your skin and feed off the human. The female mite creates a "tunnel" in your skin and lays eggs. You can never know how many are on your because they cannot be seen by human eye. Very unpleasant, imagine my position knowing that info.
After diagnosis, I was forced to move my family out of the house, to keep them safe from disease. My 18-month baby was at paid care and my wife stayed with her parents. And for me? I had to live alone. I wash and disinfect every single cm of my home DAILY. Every time I change clothes, they go direct into the washer. If I have too many clothes or bedding, they go into a plastic bag. sealed with tape until next wash. I wash sheets, blankets, pillows, clothes, and towels EVERY DAY. Shower 2x a day. I’m to scared to sit on fabrics in case the disease spreads, so I sit in lawn chair. I wear latex gloves to reduce spread of scary disease. The worst part is the fear my family isn't safe. I don’t know the exact amount of money spent to eventually get rid of this disease, but well over 1000 Euro. I needed to visit the doctor. Our home energy, oil and water unusually expensive from all the cleaning. Yes, the extra money spent is bad, but it’s nothing compared to the mental stress and fear of keeping my family safe. At the time, it was a literal nightmare, with no end in sight.
Naturally, I asked booking.com and the owners for my money back, or some meaningful compensation. I shared my story with the owners. I offered evidence, photos of the bites, doctors’ diagnosis, insurance, medicine, testimonies. And all that was met with being told they do not believe me. They assumed I am making up some story, and to that, I ask, FOR WHAT REASON?! Words cant describe the frustration of not being taken serious.
