“Great villa with a lovely pool, but your swimsuit might be damaged”
The pool was lovely. Good temperature for January, and the cover over it kept the cold wind off you while swimming, helped to keep the heat in, and protected the children from sunburn. This was important as you can't use sunscreen in the pool. Great to have a high chair - not usual in Lanzarote. Comfortable beds, spacious rooms, good supplies and equipment in the kitchen. Lovely gifts on arrival - wine, water, chocolates, marshmallows, biscuits. Tea and coffee supplied. Centrally located so that all sights were only 30-45 minutes away. Very responsive and helpful host.
Takes SO long for the hot water to get to the taps! That wouldn't be so bad (we are on holiday, we have all the time in the world :)) but the direction on the taps for hot and cold is not clearly marked, and is different in different rooms so sometimes you try both hot and cold for minutes each time before you find which one eventually gives you hot - such a waste of water in a desert country. Now, the pool: It is apparently maintained using salt, not chemicals, which should be a good thing. The salt converts into chlorine and any free chlorine is converted back into salt, as the owner explained to us. Your skin and hair definitely smell of chlorine after swimming, even after showering, but maybe the ordinary water has chlorine in it. Anyway, my daughter's swimsuit lost most of its colour (all the yellow and green colours) after half an hour in the pool. After swimming four times in the pool, my swim suit had also faded in the blue and green parts, and my daughter-in-law's navy suit was also faded in colour. The children had minor red patches on their skin which were better (although still there) after we made sure they had long baths after each swim. Their hair became very matted, worse than you get from sea swimming, which is presumably from the salt. Even after long baths, soaking their hair, shampooing it, rinsing many times and putting in conditioner, it is still dry and a bit knotted, plus the last two inches has been quite bleached (they are happy about this!). We really enjoyed the pool but I think that people need to be aware that these things may happen and take precautions such as extensive washing afterwards and only using old swimwear. Two beautiful bathrooms, but neither had a door lock. One bathroom is situated between a double room and a single room so that the person in the single room has to enter and leave their room through the bathroom.
