The lighting was poor

The aircon didn’t work. We stayed in July for a 7 night stay with two small children (aged 2 and 4). I had contacted the owners a week prior to our stay to double check about the aircon as the weather was predicted to be hotter than average on our arrival. The owners were responsive and confirmed this. We arrived late, a family member had collected keys for us and we were disappointed to learn that the aircon was in fact not operational. We contacted the owners but there was no response. A family member dropped in fans. The following day, we contacted the owners again. We spent a day not knowing if they would be able to fix the aircon. We were advised that they didn’t have an alternative room to give us. We asked if they would be able to find alternative accommodation. They said they weren’t sure. At this point, we stopped into a local hotel to see if they had rooms. This situation added a lot of stress to our holiday. We called again in the afternoon and were advised that they didn’t know if they aircon would be fixed. We were offered an alternative room for one night only advising that we would need to vacate by 1pm. We had nowhere to vacate to as they were still unsure as to whether the aircon would be fixed. It was after 11 when we were finally advised that the aircon was fixed and we could move back to our room. We spend time packing, repacking and lugging our bags and small children up and down between the two rooms with no assistance. To make matters worse, The lift was not always functional. The whole situation added a lot of unnecessary stress to our holiday. I was disappointed that no effort was made to make up for the situation.

The floors were filthy, like they hadn't been vacuumed in a long time, let alone before our stay. The bathroom had a pervasive, unpleasant smell that was fixed on our second day by the staff, but slowly came back on its own. The step in the middle of the hallway became a tripping hazard at night (could be solved with a nightlight in the hallway).
