Villa Mar

I came to rest for a couple of days having been travelling and active for a while. Sadly I didn't get much time on the terrace as we had torrential rain and so I had to spend time indoors instead. The indoors let's the property down badly- a small and very dated apartment. Vastly overcharged at 100 euros/night (low season). The bed - a dirty old divan with a seen better days mattress. It was so uncomfortable that I asked if I could leave and get a refund for the remaining nights. Refused....so I gave it a go on night two using the mattress from the terrace and all the pillows I could find- see photos. By day three I couldn't face another night and left. The host, still unwilling to refund the final night. Sofa- uncomfortable and very weathered. Lighting - horrible 80s style spots. Heating - is a dusty, noisy old fan heater. Broken items would be best removed from the kitchen - saucepans lids with broken or no plastic to hold, chipped plates etc Accessibilty: it needs to be made clearer for future guests that you may have to climb over 150 steps to get to the property from street level (IF the regular access is blocked by roadworks- as it was when I arrived). On a positive note: The property was well cleaned (although it did smell a bit stale overall) The kitchen and bathroom although basic were functional. Hot water plentiful. The host was helpful and polite, up until the point where she took exception to my having a negative opinion on her bed, accusing me of having an ulterior motive for leaving, as her bed was 'perfect'. I will say that I DO believe she has good intentions generally towards her guests. I mostly give positive reviews but sometimes it is necessary to let potential future guests know what they are and aren't getting for their hard earned cash. That is what reviews are for. This place has good potential with some investment in upgrading.
