“Good apartment but deposit was unfairly kept”
Large apartment, freshly renovated, good location 5 mins from the beach
While the apartment itself was as described, the experience was completely ruined by the way the host handled a minor issue and by Booking.com’s failure to protect the guest. On the first day, we left one key inside the door (it’s OK to do the same in Luxembourg - we have not been instructed at all). After we returned, the door could not be opened. I contacted the host and asked for help. Without informing us or giving any cost estimate, the host called a locksmith, who opened the door in seconds with a piece of paper, causing no damage at all. After check-out, the host kept the entire €150 deposit, claiming the locksmith cost €198. I repeatedly asked for a receipt and finally received one weeks later, with no name, no proof of payment, and even showing the wrong address in another city (Benalmádena, not Fuengirola). It was clearly not meant to justify a full deposit retention. Worse still, Booking.com sided with the host, despite their own rules requiring damage to be reported and proven. To make it even more frustrating, Booking.com blocked me from writing this review for weeks, until I filed a formal complaint with the European Consumer Centre. Finally, the apartment has not been cleaned well. There was dust, sand and waste in all rooms and we also received dirty towels and bed sheets. Also elevator is very small that we could hardly come in with a baby stroller.

Nothing. When you book it does say a refundable deposit of 150 euro is payable which is completely understandable as everything is brand new. might be worth making it a little bit more prominent at point of booking as I hadn’t noticed

We did not get into our apartment until 5.30 in the day, we arrived in fuengirola at 10.30 in the morning, we had nowhere to leave our luggage until 2.30 when we were met by the cleaner who allowed us to leave our luggage in the apartment while she cleaned it. When we eventually got our apartment we found it very clean and well supplied. Unfortunately the balcony left a lot to be desired, there was 2 very old armchairs and no room for to sit out in it which was very disappointing. It is a very central apartment close to all amenities.
